Sea treasure...?
Last year while swimming at the beach I found a ring in the ocean. I brought it home and brushed it up with soap and water and noticed a beautiful silver undertone. It is a mens ring/band with a stamp 925 and something else follows that, not sure what though. Any input, or value? Not sure what to do with it...or who to trust!!!
The stamping of .925 refers to the purity of the silver. Sterling components and jewelry made in the USA are often stamped Sterling. Goods made for international trade are often marked .925 indicating 92.5% fineness. The something that follows that would be the makers mark.
It is most likely a relatively new ring...new meaning within the last 20 years or so, especially since you found it close to the shore, I'd assume unless you were diving. Also, needing only to brush clean it with soap and water, well, that means it wasn't long in the water. Were it an old treasure, it'd be so encrusted you might not have even recognized it as a ring.
Sell it for the weight of the silver at current market price, if you want. You could take it to a jeweler, who'd tell you more about it. The jeweler, if he/she is reputable would know the approximate age and quality of the ring. You coulad always keep it...sort of a "treasure" of your own. ...put it on a chain. You can always have it melted down and refashioned.
