Maybe corny - but try the mall.
Almost every mall has that one boutique store (like Hot Topics) - it is the one that sells the goth, punk or heavy rock/ metal clothing and gear ---- Go to the back and they usually have a rack of t-shirts and tanks that every pretty cool.
Also, head/ tobacco shops usually have really nice shirts and just a lot of cool and different things. Need to know where one is find a college and ask a student ... a high schooler would also work but it is not smart to approach them, unless you are in high school ..... for several reasons.
Some Wal Marts and Targets -- in the men section they, usually, have a little aisle with vintage shirts- that are pretty cool and unique.
