Why Do Beatles Vinyl LP’s Hold More Value Than Leadbelly’s?

Music at one time was full of what are now considered legends, not like today’s stuff. Is it because most sounds have been done? Have all the notes been played? Or is it simply because the music market is over-saturated and all about cash?

It seemed that corporate America was losing its hold on the music industry in the nineties and that real bands were back on the rise. That, however, didn’t stay too long and the bubble gum machine was back in control by the turn of the century.

This is not new in the way of music and radio. The concern used to be with the darkness of an artist’s skin, no matter how talented he was. In the early 20th century, the blues greats Leadbelly and Blind Lemon Jefferson were the rage. Their love songs, blues, dance tunes and kids’ folk songs were something most anyone could relate and dance to.

The sound of blues evolved into a faster sound and eventually into rock-n-roll. With the evolution of the new sound, many good artists were left on the side of the road without a dime because of corporate record motives. One of the great singers that did make it out of this time was Elvis Presley. Elvis always had a tender spot for the blues, being that he was from the south. It is obvious on early Elvis Presley vinyl recordings that he was a fan of the great blues legends.

Finally, the sounds of rock-n-roll hit the English shore. England didn’t really have a grasp of the blues music back then. The UK did own the Beatles.  Once Beatles vinyl landed in America, the sound of rock and roll would never be the same.

There have been countless bands who have attempted to repeat the sounds of the Beatles and Elvis, but true legends are hard to come by. A few might say that the Rolling Stones were better than the Beatles and others might say Jerry Lee Lewis was more talented than Elvis, but no other band has ever sold more vinyl records than these two original legends.

There will probably never be any records held in the same respect as that of Elvis Presley vinyl or Beatles vinyl. It is a sad waste that the bluesmen of rock like Blind Lemon Jefferson will never have the same acclaim and acknowledgment.
