Sally, Lucy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, and Snoopy brought in turkey, salad, dressing, peas, and potatoes. Each item was brought on either a white, purple, black, green or pink plate. From the clues given, determine the kind of food each person brought and what color plate it was on.
1. No food begins with the same letter as the name of the person who brought it.
2. Linus and Lucy did not bring the turkey
3. Linus or Peppermint Patty did not bring the dressing.
4. The person who brought the potatoes and the person who brought the green plate have names beginning with the same letter.
5. Neither Sally's plate nor Lucy's plate was purple, and the peas were also not brought on the purple plate.
6. Linus's food and the food on the pink plate are not peas or potatoes.
7. Snoopy did not bring the black plate.
Logic puzzles are good to do. Helps keep your mind intact.
Just remember that the key question to always be asking is "What is impossible?" For example, clue 7 tells you that Snoopy did not bring food in on a black plate.
A good way of neatly putting down what you discover is to draw a "checkerboard" with a proper number of rows and a proper number of columns for every pair of things. You have three things here: names (5), food (5) and plates (5). One of your three 5 by 5 checkerboards will have rows labeled with names and columns labeled with colors for plates (or vice versa). With clue 7 you would go to the intersection of the Snoopy row and the black column and draw an X. After you go through all seven clues and put down all of the Xs that you can, you will have your answer.
