(CBS13) Four students were suspended today from Rio Linda High School because they defied the principal and wearing anti-gay messages on their t-shirts to school.

A couple of big issues including homosexuality and the bible were the topic of controversy. About a dozen students protested how Rio Linda allows gay students to express themselves but doesn’t give heterosexuals the same right.

"Basically, rainbow colors, they were writing on their bodies ‘gay pride’," said Christina Ivantuk, protesting student.

When protesting students wore these shirts today, they were told to remove them or go home. When they refused, at least four students were suspended for two days each

"There’s a lot of homosexuals out here, and it is kind of disturbing, you know, and we are protesting about it," said Ilya Beknizrov, suspended student.

Company Apologizes for Misspelling State on T-Shirt

Posted in T-Shirts in the News on April 1st, 2007

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. –A spokeswoman says Gov. Joe Manchin has received an apology from the company that misspelled the state’s name on T-shirts commemorating West Virginia University’s National Invitation Tournament title.

"The governor realizes it was an honest mistake and after they realized the mistake, the company apologized," spokeswoman Lara Ramsburg said.

The "West Virginia" printed on the shirts players wore after winning the NIT Thursday night was missing the last "i" in "Virginia."

Hamden, Conn.-based 6th Man Sportswear made the shirts. A call to the company was not immediately returned Saturday, but 6th Man did place an explanation of the miscue on its Web site. In short, 6th Man said no one noticed the mistake.

At least, no one noticed until WVU players donned the shirts after winning the school’s first NIT title in 65 years with the 78-73 win over Clemson.
