Illegal T-Shirt Sales Targeted During Rock Concert

By DON LEHMAN

GLENS FALLS — Six people who police believe were selling counterfeit concert T-shirts were arrested in parking lots near the Glens Falls Civic Center late Thursday during a rock concert at the arena.

The arrests came after police received complaints from a concert promoter about illicit T-shirt sales during recent concerts at the center, said Glens Falls Police Capt. William Valenza.

So with Evanescence headlining a show at the Civic Center on Thursday, the department sent two officers in plainclothes to the parking lots around the center to see if sales of bootleg shirts were taking place again.

Detective Sgt. Peter Casertino and Police Officer Joseph Boisclair found four men in a parking lot on Park Street and two in the Burger King lot selling shirts that weren’t licensed by Evanescence, police said. One of the men ran off but was caught minutes later walking on Maple Street, still carrying several counterfeit T-shirts, police said.

Several of them had prior arrests for the misdemeanor of third-degree trademark counterfeiting. That’s what they were charged with by Glens Falls Police on Thursday. They also were charged with violating a city ordinance requiring a vendor’s permit.
