T-Shirt Message Too Vile to be Joke
Who would let a child wear such a thing?

Saturday before last, my nine-year-old daughter was offered the chance to play an elf in the Santa Claus parade at a shopping mall.
She was kitted out in a floppy green hat, pointy green felt booties and bright red stockings. To my proud eye, she was the perfect picture of happy, innocent childhood. She and her fellow elves set out on their romp through the mall, while her grandmother and I positioned ourselves to watch. While we waited, we passed a shop selling novelty T-shirts.
Out front, in a prominent position, was a rack of pretty sky-blue T-shirts, in small sizes. They’d have fit my daughter and her fifth-grade classmates. They read: Almost Legal. (So please be patient.)
Charming. Especially given the legal age of sexual consent in Canada is 14.
Filled with righteous indignation, I snatched a T-shirt off the rack and marched up to the cash desk.
"This is disgusting," I huffed. "You should be ashamed to sell these."
The clerk rolled her eyes.
Local staff, she said, had no say over the stock. It was ordered by head office in Toronto.
